So I am a TigerDirect fan because their shipping is awesome. So Monday I ordered 2x320GB hard drives for the VPS I am working on building. A few hours later I ordered a new DVD-Burner as I found out mine finally went dead. I have the burner and the hard drives are back ordered.. GREAT! I only bought them so soon so I could build the VPS on my 4 day weekend. Today I noticed I didn’t have as much money in my bank account as I should have, so, I looked and saw they had a pre-authorized charge (today), as well as the original charge (Monday). What through me off is why the hell do I have a pre-auth charge 2 days after the regular charge went through. So I used their chat system and asked. At the end is a possible answer but nothing is for sure. So I am upset and will have to wait a few days to make sure the charge drops off. TigerDirect got 2 strikes just from this one order. The first one being, selling me 2 hard drives which they had marked as “in-stock” only to wait 2 days after to mark it back ordered, and the second for some bogus pre-auth charge on my debit/credit card.
Here is the chat I had with them. Friendly I might add.
Jeff K: Hi, I made an order a few days ago. It was back ordered today, and you guys ended up double charging my debit/credit card for itManuel O: would that be on order w1522862?
Jeff K: yes
Jeff K: 11/19/07 06:07 PM $169.47 CARD TRANSACTION : SYX*TIGERDIRECT.COM,
Jeff K: 11/21/07 05:00 AM $169.47 PRE-AUTHORIZATION DEBIT AT SYX*TIGERDIRECT.COM, 800-888-4437, FL ON 112107
Manuel O: yes the item is backordered as you are seeing on the site and if we get more we will use it to process your order. but right now there is no info on when we will get more, so it may be a while. as far as the double charge is concerned we can correct this by speaking to your bank during business hours on friday but we will need for you to be on the phone with us to verify your bank account. otherwise if you are willing to wait the 2nd charge will drop of on its own since it is only an authorization
Jeff K: as long as it will drop off, then no problem.. however, when will it drop off. it does not make sense, that an authorization charge was made 2 days after the original charge
Manuel O: the amount of time would depend on the policy your bank follows but its usually 2 or 3 business day.
Manuel O: you may want to give them a quick call to verify how they will handle it
Jeff K: Alrighty. If they don’t, then I should call TigerDirect then?
Manuel O: yes please do so and we will call them to resolve it. but I doubt you will need to do so
Jeff K: I am not sure if you can answer this, but, why was the pre-auth charge made 2 days AFTER the other charge went through.
Jeff K: Not to mention, a product I bought that same day (different order), did not get a pre-auth charge
Manuel O: I can tell you that we did things the same way for both order, and that this is how its coming up on your statement does not make any sense to me as it is very strange. My best assumption is that there was a miscommunication between our billing system and your bank’s system
Jeff K: Alrighty. Hopefully this will work out easily. Thanks for your time.
Manuel O: no problem
Manuel O: Anything else I can assist you with?
Jeff K: Nope, that would be it
Manuel O: Have a great day, and thanks for shopping with Tigerdirect.com!
